One day the tide turned and King Charles the V had the earl on his knees. The king only wanted to make peace treaty when they gave up the horse.

The kingsmen tried to drown the horse by hanging heavy stones on his legs and put hin in the river the Dender. The horse resurficed time after time. Until the oldest Son of the earl could no longer bare the view and turned his head away. At that moment the horse gave in and drowned.
